It’s almost as if the day the leaves change from green to bright orange in the fall, my body thinks that’s a sign I should be drinking apple cider instead of coffee, water, or pretty much anything else. Sadly, on keto, apple cider isn’t even close to an option, so I came up with this spiced hot toddy recipe as a hot alternative. You may also know hot toddy as the cure-all cold-killer, and it’s good for that too. Just sip before bed, and sleep like a baby, even through the worst colds!

Ingredients:
- 2 oz. boiling water
- 1.5 oz. bourbon
- 1/4 of a lemon worth of fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp. sweetener of your choice
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 whole cloves (in a tea/spice bag or cheesecloth)
- a dash of ground nutmeg
Steps:
- Over the stove in a small pot, bring all the liquid ingredients to a boil.
- Reduce heat, add spices and cinnamon stick, and let simmer for about 3 minutes.
- Serve with the cinnamon stick as a garnish for stirring, and sprinkle with a dash of nutmeg.
Recipe Notes:
For a group, multiply this recipe by the number of people you’re serving, except for the cinnamon stick. With the sweetener, sweeten to taste, as you may need much less in larger batches. Add to a crockpot with a ladle. Keep the lid on at all times except when serving
There are many good “sweeteners” you could use here. It could be as simple as a Torani sugar-free vanilla or lemon syrup.
