Strawberry Cream Smoothie

by Amanda C. Hughes

New England summers aren’t all that long, so when I’m craving sunshine, I whip up this tasty strawberry cream smoothie. It only requires a few simple ingredients for one satisfying and filling drink! Smoothies are a great way to get your daily dose of healthy fats and protein. When you’re in a rush they only take minutes to make and when you have a sweet tooth they make a great dessert substitute. This strawberry cream smoothie is one of my favorites. It’s on regular rotation in my house.

Something seems missing … there’s no liquid, just a bit of cream. How can you make a smoothie without some water or milk?

There’s 4 tbsp of liquid total, plus the strawberries add to it. You could add water or almond milk if you like it thinner.

Disapointed. VERY THICK (without sweetner) and VERY SWEET (with sweetner.) I tried this recipe and oh my god, this was NOT a smoothie. It was a glop of strawberries and ice. It was WAY TOO THICK to even blend inside of my blender. I tried adding water and it still did NOT help. I decided to give it another try, this time with sweetener, and it was a sugary mess. Still would NOT blend. I had it in there on and off for a solid 10 minutes and it finally had somewhat of a smoothie texture. I noticed that it did not look like a normal smoothie, as it’s color was a bright red. It looked like a freaking Dunkin Coolatta. I hesitantly gave it a try and I was disappointed. It tasted WAY too sugary. I felt like I was going to throw up PURE sugar. I hate wasting but I could NOT drink this. I dumped it out into my trash and shook my head. This smoothie was NIGHTMARE FUEL.

Weird! The photo you see here came from making this exact recipe, so I’m not sure what the difference was. I make this all the time, so I’m not sure what happened, but I do know running heavy cream through a blender for ten minutes will definitely make it more like whipped cream than a smoothie, it should only run for 30 seconds or so. As for the sweetness, I used Torani’s sugar-free vanilla syrup, but I imagine if you used something Stevia-based that could also cause it to be super sweet. It’s definitely on the icy side, more like a Coolatta I guess, but that’s because a traditional smoothie would be high-carb and I was going for a keto-friendly version.
