A keto-friendly, creamy steak and cheese mashup with a touch of dijon for added amazingness. This Dijon Steak & Cheese perfect for lunch or dinner, and even breakfast if you add it to an egg scramble. Delicious!
Truthfully, I was never a steak and cheese gal until I met my husband, who introduced me to the secret ingredient of any good steak and cheese: mayonnaise. Who knew?? Now it’s one of our lunchtime staples, and it can be one of yours too! It stores and freezes pretty well, so feel free to make some for dinner and save leftovers for lunch. Oh, and it’s amazing in an egg scramble! Try it!
I’ve been making this quick and easy dijon steak & cheese lunch recipe for so long that it never even occurred to me to put it up on the blog. That was, until today when I posted the photo on Instagram and got an immediate influx of likes. (Yeah, that’s basically where I make all my “should I blog it” decisions, so follow me!) And enjoy!

Omg yass, I just made this, it was so good. I used white cheese however because I didn’t have American, and I went lighter with the mayo and didn’t use butter.
Where do you get shaved steak from. I’m at a loss. 🙂
jenicini I get it at the grocery store, it’s usually with the rest of the steak but if it’s not you can ask the butcher there!
lilcatcuz Glad you enjoyed!
Do I remove the Onions, garlic and peppers from the pan prior to preparing the Olive oil steak mixture? Or just prepare it all together? I believe the garlic will burn if I leave it in that long, even with the extra olive oil….?
Okay so I tried it anyway… Yes the garlic does burn. Heat the Butter/Ghee on about 3 in a pan, throw in the veggies as soon as it’s melted, don’t wait for it to bubble or anything or it will burn, mix the Onions, garlic and green peppers asap, then turn the heat up to mediim low. I put a lid on my pan to create a bit of steam to soften the Onions and peppers without burning the garlic. Once you start getting that translucent look on the Onions and slightly browning on the garlic, take it out of the pan and set to the side. Now add the shaved steak to the pan; No olive oil. I used a VERY thin steak (they call them “fast fry” steaks in Canada), used a very sharp knife and just sliced as soon as I could WITH the grain. The entire steak doesn’t have the same grain, don’t be afraid to cut it apart and slice it in different directions, and YES, do remove the fat. There is no need for the olive oil as red meat is quite a fatty even AFTER removing the big fatty peices. Plus there should be a thin film of grease left in the pan from cooking the veggies. Throw the meat into the pan and mix around on medium low until browned; Drain the meat! Then throw in the onion, garlic, pepper mixture and mix all together and cook on high heat for a few mins being sure not burn the garlic. Remove the pan from the heat as soon it is at your desired amount of browned. Turn the burner back down to low (about 3 again). I premixed the mayo and dijon mustard beforehand… I like things a BIT spicy, so I decreased the mayo to only 2 Tbsp and increased the dijon to 1 and 1/2 Tbsp. With the pan OFF the heat, add the mayo/dijon mizture and stir quickly and well. Once the burner has cooled to medium low, put the pan back on, put the American cheese (I used marble) on top the mixture. Put the lid back on! It will create all around heat so the cheese melts before the mayo burns. Leave on until cheese is melted; remove pan from heat (so the cheese doesn’t burn to the bottom while you are mixing it) and mix the chesee in well. Transfer to a ceramic or glass container immediately so as not to have a sticky mess of a pan to clean up after. It’s seriously amazing. Thank you for the recipe!!!!
This is sooooo good. Incredibly easy to make. One of my favorite quick meals
