If you love a crispy, earthy, slightly spicy but not-like-that kind of spicy turkey, then I recommend you make this Black Pepper and Cinnamon Roasted Keto Turkey for the family. I first created it for chicken, but now I’ve upgraded it to sharing status with the whole family on Thanksgiving. I hate to pick favorites, but this is my favorite.

Recipe tip: I’ve not included carbs for the oranges in this recipe because they’re mostly used for aromatics and flavoring. Also, the baking powder helps the skin get nice and crispy, and it doesn’t contain any carbs (go figure, right?) If you want to make gravy from the drippings, simply add a little xanthan gum or arrowroot flour to thicken to your liking, both are keto-friendly. Adding cold butter to a pan of hot pan juices can also thicken the gravy.
Ingredients:
- 1 – 12-pound turkey
- 2 tbsp garlic
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp cracked black pepper
- 4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2-3 halved oranges (optional)
Steps:
- Pre-heat your oven to 325 degrees F.
- Add your turkey to a roasting rack within a roasting pan, and tuck the wings behind the turkey.
- Facing the cavity, try to run your hands under the skin leading toward the neck. You should be able to create a nice pocket to hide things in (like spices!) but try not to rip the skin.
- In a bowl, combine all ingredients into a paste. Once you add the lemon juice, it will fizz due to the reaction with the baking powder.
- Rub the paste all over the turkey, including under the skin, then add whatever you like to the cavity of your turkey. I filled it with halved oranges, an onion, garlic cloves, and sage. You can stuff it with whatever you fancy (just as long as the neck and that plastic bag with the giblets are long gone.)
- Tie your turkey legs together and roast according to your weight (approximately 15 minutes per pound).
- Feel free to baste throughout the process and especially at the end. It makes for truly excellent drippings!
This keto turkey recipe comes from my holiday cookbook, Keto All the Way!
