Bacon Whiskey Caramelized Onions

There’s nothing better than bacon or whiskey, so why not caramelize some onions using these two blockbuster ingredients? You can add these Bacon Whiskey Caramelized Onions to burgers, vegetables, and just about anything else you desire.

Ingredients

  • 1 sliced onion
  • 1 tbsp bacon grease
  • 3 tsp whiskey
  • water

Instructions

  1. Heat up a pan on medium low with your bacon grease.
  2. Halve your onion then cut it into long 1/4 inch slices.
  3. Add onions to the pan when hot and let cook for a few minutes. Then use a wooden spoon to break apart any pieces of onions still sticking together.
  4. Mix around every few minutes for about 20 minutes.
  5. Whenever your onions begin to get a little dry and are sticking to the pan, add a tsp of whiskey and mix.
  6. Rotate with 1 tbsp water until you’ve used all the whiskey, then stick with water as needed.
  7. When the onions are soft, sweet and brown, they’re ready!

Notes

Don’t chop the onions, they’ll burn. Slice them into about a quarter inch. If you need to chop them later, you can.
