This year for St. Patrick’s day I thought it would be fun to recreate the not-so-healthy but ever-so-delicious Shamrock Shake.



  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder (your favorite keto-friendly brand.)
  • 1/2 ripe avocado, cubed
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup almond milk (no sugar added)
  • 1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • A handful of ice cubes
  • Optional: 2 drops of Green food coloring
  • Optional: Whipped cream
  • Optional: Garnish with a Cherry (1 carb), or strawberry (0.5 carbs) for the traditional red hat. You could even use a mint leaf as I’ve done here.


  • In a blender, combine all the Shamrock Shake ingredients except ice.
  • Blend until smooth, then add ice until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Add green food coloring if you’re feeling extra festive, and top the Shamrock Shake with some homemade whipped cream and a single cherry or strawberry for a treat.


You might think it’s a good idea to try making a Shamrock Shake with coconut cream for the fats, but coconut won’t work here, it’s a little too overpowering, so I would stick to the heavy whipping cream and sugar-free almond milk. The ice cubes aren’t an exact science and vary in sizes, so just add them until it reaches the consistency you enjoy.
